  • For 2 persons: 2.5 hp

Sailing a rubber boat with a motor without a boating license

Do you have a small dinghy? Then you often do not need a boating license. This applies to rubber boats with a maximum length of 15 meters and a maximum speed of 20 kilometers per hour. Is your dinghy longer or does it go faster? Then you do need a boating license.

From the age of 12 you can sail an open motor boat of a maximum of 7 meters. You can also sail a pleasure craft or motor boat up to 15 meters without a boating license. You must be at least 18 years old for this. The maximum speed without a boating license if you are between 12 and 18 years old is 13 kilometers per hour.

Please note: it is not permitted everywhere to sail without a boating license. A boating license is required to enter sea ports. A boating license is also required for sailing on larger inland waterways in the Netherlands.
